Sour Grapes

I love grapes, so when someone does something to harm my grapes in any way, I get a little annoyed.

The whole family went grocery shopping on Saturday, which doesn't happen very often. It's usually just me and Ladybug, in the Baby Bjorn, strolling through the store. Not this time. This time it was all of us.

We were strolling along just fine. We made it to the checkout line without much drama. The checker was ringing in my items, including my bunch of green grapes and my bunch of red grapes (they were on sale), and sending them down the belt for the bagger to bag them.

I happened to turn my head to talk to the hubs and, as I was turning back around, I noticed the 95 year old bagger, Millie, pop one of my red grapes into her mouth! Are you kidding me???? She ate one of my grapes! One of the grapes that I already payed for (yes, only a fraction of a cent, but payed for never-the-less).

I was speechless. The worst part of it was, she saw me see her do it. She didn't chew it; she just held it in her mouth as if not chewing might make me think maybe she didn't just eat one of my prized nuggets of sugar.

I didn't say anything to the hubs, who would have made a ginormous issue of it. I didn't say anything to her, but only because she was of an age where I thought I should show some respect and not tell her off.

I am still annoyed by this. Who does something like that? I mean, c'mon - hands off my grapes!

I can't believe it! I guess it was well past her lunchtime and she needed a little snack. I assume she didn't help you to your car (do grocery baggers anywhere do that anymore?), if so she may have swiped the change from your cup holder. What? You don't keep change in your car? Yeah, me either. :)

Oh my gosh! This really made me laugh because it is so ridiculous that someone would do that, but I also probably would have said what you were thinking, "Are you kidding me??" Maybe if she gets away with swiping something from each shopper, she doesn't have to cook dinner at night.

Kudos on not yelling at the elderly. :o)

You are a much better person than me - seriously.

1) I don't believe elderly get respect just for being old - respect is earned.

2) I would have gone ape shit over that grape and the entire store would have known what she did.

Seriously, if it weren't for Roobik I would probably be in jail or a mental institution because of the way I go off on people.

You have earned my respect for being the kind of person I just can't be.

Good for you for not yelling. I saw someone treating the bulk bins at Henry's like a buffet. I was going to buy some of the items until she stuck her fingers in them. Not quite the same though huh?

I can't wait to be really old and get away with stuff. LOL!

I have something new on Button.. You might like it!

Oh my word! All of you made me laugh. Believe me when I say it took me a few deep cleansing breaths to get through it. I think I was just in shock from seeing her do it.

Jessica - yeah, no change in my car, but she could have swiped the folded up and bagged beach chairs!

Jenny - She just might get enough that way. Maybe no one ever catches her. If the hubs hadn't been there, I wouldn't have seen her do it.

Rebecca - That's precisely the reason I didn't tell the hubs until we walked out the door. He would have made a serious stink.

Mel - we don't have bulk bins in NH, but boy if we did, you can be sure I wouldn't buy that stuff. Goodness knows who the heck is sticking their hands in their!

Burg - Lose her teeth privileges! Fantastic! I can just see her gumming my grapes - wait, she wouldn't even chew it in my presence!!!

Considering her age, I think it's pretty funny and makes a good post. I would have given her the stink eye and just chuckled about it.

Old people make me laugh so much. You did the right thing.

If I'm 95 and still bagging groceries to get by, I just might steal a grape or two too! ha!

Oh my gosh! That is so annoying! I am sorry, I don't think I could have held my tongue! Good for you with respecting the elderly! I can't believe she did that!! EWW~
I think I would have said something like, "Would you pop a piece of raw chicken in your mouth, too?"

Sorry that happened to you.
